Siskid
Hailing from Manchester, David Shaw had a classical musical education before taking his first steps on the rock and electronic scene. This background has had a profound influence and allowed him to create an original musical identity somewhere between techno and groove indie rock.
Since 2005, his releases under the pseudonym Siskid, « Clean Breakfast », « Hummer », « The Architect », and « She Has Reasonable Doubts » on Initial Cuts, thanks to which he has been invited to the prestigious festivals, Les Nuits Sonores, Sonar, Les Ardentes, Oxygen, Wire… and have conferred on him the status of resident DJ at renowned clubs including the Pulp and the Rex.
Until 2007 he was also the lead guitar, bass and keyboard artist during the live performances and recording sessions of the band Blackstrobe (Ivan Smagghe and Arnaud Rebotini). The outcome was the album « Burn your own Church » (Beggars Banquet) which was recorded in London produced by Paul Epworth, mixed by Alan Moulder.
He has now moved on, and together with Remain has created Meant Records, an independent record label, on which he releases his Siskid electronic titles and other notable projects, such as his rock band Animal Machine. After his EP « Wolves » in 2009, few remixes and the performance of a new live with drums and machines, Siskid released « Gun Stubs » in April 2010.
Skeleton groove, robotic beats, hypnotic sequential patterns… « Gun Stubs » and its flip side « The Lord With Practice » set a cold and electric mood, enhanced by neon lights. For this record, Siskid has chosen to work with singer Olivia de Lanzac, from the band Quad Throw Salchow, The Glimmers, and Rebolledo. The result of these artistic encounters is not only a masterly musical performance, but also confirms Siskid’s talent both as a musician and a producer.
He recently produced super upcoming artist Anything Maria, which the first single « Cook Him Up » was spotted and remixed by Yuksek, and also critically acclaimed by the press and blogs.
